Susan irene McKelvey Malcom
Salisbury—Susan Irene McKelvey Malcom, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Wicomico Nursing Home. Born in Marion, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Albert McKelvey and Martha Hunter McKelvey.
She was a charter member of Northpointe Tabernacle in Salisbury and previously a long time member of Parkway Church of God where she served as SS Superintendent, sang in the choir and volunteered in the Ladies Willing Worker Band. Years earlier she had worked as a bookkeeper for the Fruitland Shirt Factory, Mays Department Store and the family owned trucking business. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, always quick to give them gummy bears and Wrigley's Spearmint gum for a special treat.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Wanda Carole Surricchio and her husband, Larry of Quantico and Donna Malcom Horner of Salisbury; a son, Wayne Carl Malcom of Denmark, SC; 7 grandchildren, Susan, Julie, Steven, Richard, Kevin, Eric and Bryan; 22 great grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary "Addie" Rawleigh of Kingston, NC; 3 brothers, Joseph McKelvey and his wife, Charlotte of Pennsville, NJ, Philip McKelvey and his wife, June of East New Market and Paul McKelvey of Alloway, NJ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Carl Malcom in 1993; a sister, Melva Whaley; 2 brothers, Rev. Thomas McKelvey and George McKelvey.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00am at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Ray Smith, IV and Rev. Solomon Bramble, III will officiate. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron.
