Valerie Everton Hawkins

Princess Anne—Valerie Everton Hawkins of Princess Anne died February 1 at home. She was 69 years old. Born in Birmingham, Alabama she was the daughter of Edgar R. Everton and

Louise W. Smith.

She attended the University of Tennessee and the University of North Carolina where she majored in classics. For a number of years she was employed in the Marketing Division of GlaxoSmithKline in Philadelphia followed by more than a decade as a mother and housewife before returning to work in real estate with Coldwell Banker in Watchung, New Jersey.

In 1999 she retired with her husband to Princess Anne and became active in St. Andrews Episcopal Church and community affairs, serving in 2007 as president of the

Shoreland Club of Princess Anne. She was a beloved substitute teacher at Washington High School for four years.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Eugene H. Hawkins of Princess Anne; two children, Jane C. Hawkins of Princess Anne and Edward L. Hawkins as well as a

grandson Miles E. Hawkins of Moorestown, PA and a brother, Angus R. Everton of Baltimore and two nieces.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Princess Anne at 11 AM on Saturday, Feb

16th. The family will welcome visitors at the Church one hour prior to the service. the Rev. David Michaud will officiate.
