William Norris Ward

SALISBURY-William Norris Ward, 88, of Salisbury died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at home. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Larry C. Ward and Nora Whayland Ward.

In 1945 Mr. Ward was a sergeant in the Maryland State Guard, 4th Battalion, Company C. From 1945-1946 he was in the U.S. Army, 1322 Army Service Unit as a staff sergeant in finance at Fort George G. Meade. Mr. Ward worked at Delmarva Power & Light Co. from 1942-83 and in 1971 was assistant treasurer and joined the board of directors and in 1974 was assistant secretary and assistant treasurer of Maryland and Virginia companies. In 1984 he was president of Kiwanis of Salisbury; also in 1984 he was a member of Deer's Head Center Citizen Advisory Board which was appointed by Gov. Harry Hughes. From 1971-72 he was a member of Salisbury Elks Lodge No. 817-Inner Guard. He was also a member of Delmarva Power Men's Glee Club and was finance chairman for Rockawalkin United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Erma Brimer Ward; daughter, Vicki Ward Sevier and her husband, the Rev. Huey J. Sevier, of Salisbury; grandchildren, Andrew P. Sevier and Aaron M. Sevier; brother-in-law, Harold W. Brimer Jr. and wife, Geri; and sister-in-law, Aline Ward; three great-grandsons; and one niece and four nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, G. Robert Ward, Elton Ward and Preston Ward; and a sister, Evelyn W. Henchcliffe.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 5, from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Pastor Patty Frick will officiate.
