Betty Leigh Culver

Delmar—Betty Leigh Culver, 91, died peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2013. Born in Delmar, Delaware, on July 28, 1921, Betty was the daughter of the late Cora D. and Seth J. Ellis. She spent most of her life in Delmar, but resided at Atria in Salisbury for the last six years.

A graduate of the University of Delaware, Betty taught math for the Delmar School District for 35 years until her retirement in 1981. She was an active and long-time member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church in Salisbury, MD, the Delaware Retired School Personnel Association, and the MADD Association of Delaware.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Burton Epperson Culver in 2003, and her son Burton (Burt) E. Culver, Jr., in 1987. She is survived by her daughters, Rachel Wood of Wilmington, DE, and Rebecca Webster of Chance, MD; sons-in-law Greg Webster and Joe Miller; granddaughters Laura Maynor, Justine Willin, and Hannah Kreidel; a grandson Lance Culver; as well as six great grandchildren. She has one surviving sibling, Arthur Ellis of Ocean View, DE.

A graveside service will be held in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar, Delaware, on Thursday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be officiated by Dr. William Warren, pastor at Allen Memorial Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to The Culver Family Scholarship which has been awarding scholarships to Delmar High School graduates since 1988. The family wishes to thank the life guidance workers at Atria for the compassion and kindness they showed Betty during her stay.
