Barbara Regina Hooks Kelley

BALTIMORE — Barbara Regina Hooks Kelley departed this life Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Selma, Ala., on Jan. 20, 1933, to the late Richard Monroe Hooks and Ada Mae Persons Hill. Barbara's loving husband of 58 years, Page Wilson Kelley, died in June 2008. Her only child, Page Wilson Kelley Jr., died in 1995.
She was also preceded in death by her only brother, Richard Alexander Hooks, in February 2005, her oldest sister, Patricia Louise Hooks McDonald in April 2012, and her stepsister, Betty Joyce Thompson Caudill, in February 2010.
Barbara was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, mentor and dear friend to many, and she leaves a large family and numerous friends to mourn her passing, including two sisters, Toni Hooks Kasko (and family) of Baltimore, and Ann Hooks Hill (and husband Jack and family) of Chincoteague. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Brenda S. Hooks of (wife of the late Richard A. Hooks) of Salisbury, and Ann Kelley Stevens (wife of Tom Stevens) of Atlantic, Va. Barbara will be missed by several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially first cousin Sybella Wood (and husband Jack and family) of Pensacola, Fla.
Barbara attended public schools in Onancock and Chincoteague and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Salisbury University. She retired as a registered nurse from PRMC in 1994 after many dedicated
years. Page and Barbara Kelley were founding members of the Salisbury Church of Christ, and volunteered at Vacation Bible School camps for many years. Barbara will be remembered for her kind, compassionate care, both
personally and professionally, for family, friends, neighbors and her pets.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and prior to the 11 a.m. service on Wednesday at Salisbury Church of Christ on Old Ocean City Road in Salisbury. Memorial contributions may be made to Salisbury Church of Christ.
