Betty Jean Best McIntyre

FRUITLAND — Betty Jean Best McIntyre of Fruitland died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at the Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. She was 89 years old. Born July 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Bessie Ashbaugh and Maurice Best. She grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania, moving to Maryland after she married her husband, O. Douglas McIntyre, in 1946. They made their home in Fruitland.

Betty was devoted to her husband of 66 years and to her family. She was a homemaker and loved nothing more than having her whole family over and cooking large meals. Betty also enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing dominos and cards, working puzzles, listening to bluegrass, country, and gospel music and traveling to Florida with her husband in their RV.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill and Larry Best; her sister, June Repine; great-grandson, Joseph McIntyre; and son-in-law, Bob Shockley.

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Bulmer and her husband, Jim, of Fruitland, Linda Shockley-Bryan and her husband, Chris, of Salisbury, Kathryn "Kitty" Cade and her husband, Ed Jr., of Delmar; one son, John D. McIntyre and his wife, Dina, of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren and spouses, Douglas Johanson and his wife, Wendy, David Johanson and his wife, Margo, Bryan Johanson and his wife, Heidi, Wendy Tribeck and her husband, Matt, Steve Riggin and his wife, Kristina, Tara O'Barsky and her husband, Chris, John J. McIntyre and his wife, Kristy, Christopher and his wife, Christan, Daniel McIntyre and his twin sister, Rebecca, Eddie Cade III and his wife, Kim, Melissa Ashley and her husband, Curt; 15 great-grandchildren, Sarah Johanson, Andrew Johanson, Paul Curtis, Cody Riggin, Nicholas Riggin, Noah O'Barsky, Riley Grace O'Barsky, Matthew Tribeck Jr., Hailey Johanson, Xavier Ashley, Zander Ashley and Yarlee Ashley, Logan McIntyre, Jake McIntyre and Emily McIntyre; and a sister, Virginia Strotman of DeKalb, Ill.

A funeral service officiated by the Rev. David Bennett will be held at Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Friends and family may call from noon-1 p.m. Interment will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park. A luncheon will be held at Gateway Church of Christ following the services.
