Bonita "Bonnie" Faye Shankle

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Bonita "Bonnie" Faye Shankle, 65, of Cumberland passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after a liver transplant and a brain aneurysm. She received a liver from a living donor by the name of Daniel Burr of Hedgesville, W.Va., who gave the ultimate miracle of becoming a living organ donor.
Born March 14, 1947, in Shenandoah, Va., Mrs. Shankle was a daughter of the late Donald Hirsch Boyer Sr. and Pearl Juanita (Thompson) Boyer.
Bonnie retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. and had worked for the Allegany College of Maryland Respiratory Therapy Department.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dennis M. Shankle; her daughter, Charity N. Holley and her husband, William; her beloved granddaughter, who was the light of her life, Calista Logan Holley. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald H. Boyer Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Middletown, Md., and Gerald W. Boyer and wife, Bonnie, of Warsaw, Ind.; and her sister, Joyce Kutlik and husband, Charles, of Greenbackville.
A celebration of Bonnie's life will be conducted at the Centre Street United Methodist Church on Monday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ann Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
A private oceanside ceremony will be held at a later date.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Bonnie's name to the Family House, 5001 Baum Boulevard, Pittsburgh, Pa., 15213.
