SALISBURY — Donald Denwood Mariner, 73, of Salisbury died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Harvey Weldon Mariner and Alice Irene Dorsey Mariner.

Don was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Lions International District Club 22-B, for which he was a past president and past vice president, Wicomico Yacht Club, Delmarva Poultry Industry and Moose Lodge 654.

He worked for 42 years in the poultry industry as a production manager for various companies, retiring in 2001.

Don was known for his love of cooking chicken for various functions, such as the Salisbury Festival and Little Leagues. You could always catch him cooking on the "giant frying pan." He enjoyed surf fishing and camping in Chincoteague, but his love and passion was spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Donald worked for Perdue, Tyson, Chesapeake Foods, Hudson Foods and Whittington Farms.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Lee Kelley Mariner; a son, Gregory Allan Mariner, and his wife, Ruth, of Delmar; a daughter, Robin Mariner Steininger, and her husband, Keith, of Willards; four grandchildren, Kelly Sterling and her husband, James, of Salisbury, Stephen Mariner and Adam Mariner, both of Delmar, and Kristin Steininger of Burlington, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Kaylin Rae Sterling; a sister, Nadine Cavey of Salisbury; a nephew, William Cavey, and his wife, Chrissy, of Salisbury; a cousin, Kevin Mariner of Princess Anne; an aunt, Doris Mariner of Salisbury; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, with a visitation Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and also Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
