Hilda Williams Taylor

SALISBURY — Hilda Williams Taylor, 93, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Salisbury Center: Genesis ElderCare, where she had lived for more than three years after a long illness. Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Samuel and Cora Mae Hastings Williams.

She grew up on a farm near Friendship in Wicomico County and graduated from Pittsville High School. On March 31, 1939, she married John Calvin "Jack" Taylor (deceased, 1989) of Berlin. She lived in Berlin for a number years to care for the elderly Taylors, then moved to Salisbury in 1943. while Jack was in the Navy during World War II.

She worked in sales and bookkeeping for Willings Stationery, Taylor's Market, Dennis and Elliott (Purina Distributors), Esham's Poultry, Hess Apparel, Rafters, Hair Odyssey and The Gap. She retired at the age of 85 and enjoyed both bowling and gardening. Hilda and Jack were very active with the Wicomico Horseshoe Club and enjoyed many summer days with their friends in the park.

She was preceded in death by a brother Preston, his wife, Dorothy; and sisters, Elsie, her husband, Vernon Shay, Ruth, her husband, Bassett Townsend, and Fannie, her husband, Donald Day.

She is survived by a son, J.C. Taylor and his wife, Pat, of Salisbury; a grandson, John Taylor and his wife, Anna, of Salisbury; and a granddaughter, Heather Kovall and her husband, David, of New York City. Hilda had three great-grandchildren including Brittney and Brian Minerva of Salisbury and Henry Jack Kovall of New York.

Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park, with a private family service Monday and a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Wicomico Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, nursing aids, and staff members of Genesis for the care, love and dignity that she received for throughout those three years. They are truly special people.

Hilda was a member and deacon of Wicomico Presbyterian Church, where donations may be sent to the Deacon's Fund, 129 Broad St., Salisbury, Md. 21801.
