Janice Knode Obituary

Janice Anne Elliot Knode

SALISBURY — Janice Anne Elliot Knode, 70, passed away in Falls Church, Va., on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, after a short illness. She was a daughter of the late Elijah Raymond and Mabel Crockett Elliott of Delmar.

Janice graduated from Delmar High School in 1959. She worked as office manager for Clyde Perry and Sons, accountant for J. Roland Dashiel & Sons in Salisbury and financial manager for Midway Chevrolet in Pocomoke City. She moved to Northern Virginia, where she worked as office manager for a custom film developing laboratory and she remarried in 1981, and lived for 30 years in Falls Church. At the time of her death, she and her husband, Brian, were in the process of moving to Salisbury. She was active in the local Virginia Democratic Committee, participated as poll attendant, was active in the Rainbow History Project, where she served as treasurer and also served on the board of directors. She enjoyed playing piano, was organist for several years at her church and was a knitting enthusiast. She also was a member of the Nabb Research Center at Salisbury University, where she published an article in the Shoreline magazine on the history of the family's home named Hollywood Plantation in Quantico. She was deeply devoted to family and friends, and had intensely researched family history, including research travels throughout Delmarva, including trips to England, and South Dakota to trace the family roots at their source.

She is survived by husband, Brian Knode of Salisbury; sisters, Irene Carey of Princess Anne and Maxine Stickles of Gainesville, Mo.; daughter, Michelle Szymczak of Carson, Va.; sons, Michael H. Perry of Delmar and Keith R. Perry of San Francisco; grandchildren, Matthew Jason, Allie and Caroline Szymczak of Carson; grandson, Christopher Perry of Princess Anne; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Perry of Princess Anne; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held at her home in Falls Church. No formal service is planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Rainbow History Project, 1225 Eye St., NW Suite 600, Washington, D.C. 20005; or Adkins Historical Complex, PO Box 160, Mardela Springs, Md. 21837.

Sorry to read that Jan has passed. You have my condolences. We were second cousins and she gave me much of the most valuable information regarding our shared family and roots, re: the French's in the Hollywood Plantation. I was looking forward to her moving here to teach me more. God Bless her and her family.....Greg French
