SALISBURY—Juanita Burnett Holland, 86, of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Wicomico Nursing Home. Born in Spartanburg, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Lewis Burnett and Venie Lou Burnett.
She graduated in 1939, from Boiling Springs High School and attended Winthrop College in South Carolina. She married her husband of 60 years, Norman Holland Jr., whom she met at a USO dance at Camp Croft in Spartanburg, S.C. They resided in Salisbury where she worked for the family business, Pocahontas, Inc.
She was proud of achieving the Life Member status of the American Contract Bridge league. She was also a Life Member of the Junior Board Auxiliary of PRMC, past president of the Wicomico Women's Club and member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she loved serving on the Altar Guild. One of her greatest passions was golf. As a member of Green Hill Ladies golf for many years, she enjoyed playing courses all over the shore. She also enjoyed being a member of bowling teams in Salisbury and in Seaford.
"Neet" or "Nita" as she was known to her friends, will be remembered for her devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren, her gracious Southern style, her love for helping people, her deep faith and belief in God, and her love of the Maryland Terrapins!
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl H. Brenner and her husband, Chas of Salisbury; two sons, S. Norman Holland, III and his wife, Gayle of Salisbury and Gregg B. Holland and his wife, Jamie of Simi Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Heidi, Philip, Michael, Daniel, Norman IV(Shawna), Abigail (Joe), Lauren (Doug), Devin (Shannon) and Shelby; five great-grandchildren, Colin, Quint, Samantha, Alana and Ava; a sister-in-law, Ruth Isear of Wilmington, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend and care giver, Doris Butler of Salisbury.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, S. Norman Holland, Jr.; a brother, John V. Bryant; and a sister, Mary B. White.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn P. Catley, Jr..
