Larry "Butchie" Brittingham

GREENBACKVILLE—Larry Dale "Butchie" Brittingham, 63, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 6, 2013, at his Captain's Cove residence in Greenbackville. Butchie was born on Jan. 6, 1950. He is the son of Clayton and Margaret Brittingham of Salisbury.

Butchie proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine through two tours in Vietnam. He was especially proud to have served at the White House in Washington, D.C., as a guard to President Nixon. It was in Washington that he met and married Patricia Chambers and together they had three daughters. He moved back to the Eastern Shore and owned and operated Brittingham Installations for over 25 years until he retired. For the last several years he worked alongside his brother, Michael, at M.J. Brittingham Machines in Salisbury.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Paula Brittingham of Greenbackville; three daughters, Tara Brittingham and fiance, Brian Ross of Delmar, Del., Amy Brittingham of Salisbury, Erin Brittingham, and fiance, Albert Merritt of Salisbury, and two stepsons, George Coddington and wife, Tammy, of Calvert City, Ky., and John Coddington and fiancee, Tiffany, of Bridgeville.

He is also survived by his brother, Michael Brittingham and wife, Jeanne, of Parsonsburg; his sister, Betty Lou Howard and her husband, Carey, of Chincoteague; six grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, AJ, Kayla, Sarah and Evan; seven stepgrandchildren, Justin, Tommy, Michael, Alex, Andrew, Jamie and Mary; two nieces, Susan and Shari; three nephews, Michael, Steve and Shane; special cousins, Gary Crowley and wife, Toni, and Jim Wayne Crowley and wife, Linda; as well as several great-nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

A special memorial service will be held at Holloway Funeral Home PA in Salisbury, officiated by the Rev. James Nock, on Saturday, May 25, at 2 p.m. Friends and family may call at 1 p.m. Interment will be private.
