Leonard J. Zawacki

ELKTON, Md. — Leonard J. Zawacki, 88, of Elkton passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2011. Born on May 23, 1923, in Glen Lyon, Pa., he was a son of the late John and Mary Urbanski Zawacki.

Mr. Zawacki was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. A graduate of Western Maryland College, he retired from General Motors Corp. as a manager after 37 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Elkton, and had been very active in Elkton Little League. Mr. Zawacki loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his college sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Angela Crothers Zawacki; children, Karen Z. Pillets (Stephen), Windham, N.H., Kevin C. Zawacki (Jenny), Hebron and Brian S. Zawacki (Virginia), Westminster, Md.; grandchildren, Patricia (James), Kathryn (Robert), Kelsey, Connor, Leonard II, Benjamin, Martin, Anna, Daniel and Kara; great-granddaughter, Madelyn; and siblings, Louis J. Zawacki and Heliadore Zabiegalski, both of Nanticoke, Pa.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Zawacki was preceded in death by his siblings, Verna Kanjorski, Stanley and Edward Zawacki, and Alfreda Suskie.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, Md. 21921. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 105 S. Bridge St., Elkton. Interment will follow the service in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, Md.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Elkton Little League or a charity of your choice, in care of the funeral home. Visit hickshomeforfunerals.com.
