Luvenia P. Spence

Newark—Luvenia P. Spence made her heavenly transition on January 21, 2013 at her residence in Newark. She was born on November 11, 1911, in Berlin to the late Charles and Sarah Purnell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Spence.

Luvenia, lovingly known as "Venie," was a member of Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church in Snow Hill where she served on several boards and auxiliaries for many years.

She leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Sarah E. Purnell, Carol A. (Lawrence) Wilson, Celia A. Purnell, and Carlos D. Smith; two sisters, Hazel Holland and Clara (Dennis) Taylor; four grandchildren, Terri Riley, Makeita Purnell, Tina McCory, and Carla Hyman; five great-grandchildren, Kyuana Purnell, Eric Lovelace, Ezra and Elijah McCory, and Makayla Hayman; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mrs. Spence will lie in repose on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church located on 7022 Scotland Road in Snow Hill and Saturday from 10 to 11 AM at Snow Hill High School located on 305 South Church Street in Snow Hill. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery on Assateague Road in Berlin. A ministry of comfort and dignity is being provided by Lewis N.
