Laurel—Mary Jane Johnson, 87, of Laurel, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.

She was born October 5, 1925 in Delmar, a daughter of the late John and Jewell (Wessells) Baker.

In her younger days Mary Jane worked as a secretary for the Manhattan Shirt Factory for over 18 years before leaving to stay at home and raise her family. She was a long time member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar. She was a life member of the Delmar VFW Post 8276 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the United Transportation Lodge 430 Ladies Auxiliary and a former Laurel Lioness. She had a true love for life and enjoyed dancing and having lunch with her many friends. Her true passion was making memories with her family and she especially loved trips to Florida.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Richard G. Johnson; 2 daughters, Sue C. Niblett and husband Doug, of Delmar and Mary Ellen McCrea and husband Mike, of Georgetown; a son, Bruce Boyce and wife Bonnie of Laurel; 5 grandchildren, Rodney Niblett and wife Susan, Eric Niblett and wife Lisa, Annelle Ripple and boyfriend Mark Lue, Kyle Jones and girlfriend Kelly Gordy and Breada Boyce; 7 great grandchildren, Sydney, Conner, Lukas, MacKenzie, Myah, Mason and Ryan; Richard's daughters, Cynthia S. Gootan and husband Serge and Janet L. Adkins; Richard's 6 grandchildren; and three nieces, Ann Street, Faye Brittingham and Lisa Ellis. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Emaline Dennis, who passed in 1994 and Betty Ann Lloyd, who passed earlier this year; and a nephew, Johnny Lloyd.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 2:00 to 3:00. The Reverend Phyllis Walton will officiate. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 101 E. State Street, Delmar, DE 19940.
