OCEAN PINES — Meyer Scharf, 97, was born in New York City and lived in New Brunswick, N.J., for 45 years. He attended Nathan Hale Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School, New Brunswick High School and Rutgers University, Class of 1935. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged on Oct. 27, 1945. He owned the Bellmore Dress Co. in New Brunswick with his father, Sigmund Scharf. Later he was vice president of manufacturing for the Lady Manhattan Co. in Paterson, N.J., and then owned Salisbury Manufacturing in Salisbury. Meyer was one of the first residents of Ocean Pines, having lived there from 1975-2012. Married in 1941 to Elizabeth Mellen Scharf who died in 2002, Meyer is survived by loving daughters Stephanie Scharf (Jeffry Mandell) and Jane Schiff; cherished grandchildren Meredith Mandell, Jonathan Mandell, Julie Schiff (David) Oshins, Lauren Schiff (Kevin) Watters; and great-grandchildren Ari Oshins and Elizabeth Oshins; also survived by devoted nephews, cousins and friends. A graveside funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Washington Cemetery, Deans, South Brunswick, N,J. Services are by Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, N.J, 732-446-4242.
