Philip C. Cooper

Salisbury—Philip C. Cooper, 102, of Salisbury passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Caleb Calvin Cooper and Mary A. Fooks Cooper.

He was a US Navy veteran serving with the 88th Construction Battalion of the US Navy Seabees. He received a BS degree from the University of Maryland, where he was on the Track and Cross Country team and a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He was a civil engineer for 20 years with the Maryland State Roads Commission and then for the City of Salisbury for 28 years retiring in 1978. He was the founding chairman of the Deers Head Foundation and a member of the Salisbury Rotary Club and Bethesda U.M. Church. The Boy Scouts of America honored him with the "Silver Beaver" and Del-Mar-Va distinguished Citizens Awards. In 2008 he was bestowed with the honor of receiving the Salisbury Award.

He is survived by a son, Philip G. Cooper and his wife, Elizabeth of Ashland, OR and a daughter, Linda L. Riggin and her husband, John of Delmar; 3 grandchildren, Stephanie Lehman and her husband, Dave of Helena, MT, Kim Botdorf and her husband, Dan of Virginia Beach, VA and Shawn Riggin and his wife, Melanie of Macomb, IL; 6 great grandchildren, James and Crystal Brust, Thomas and Danielle Botdorf, and Ella and Gabe Riggin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Cooper in 2005, brothers, Rear Admiral Joshua W. Cooper and his wife, Rena and Dr. William Cooper and his wife, Reba and a sister, Charlotte Young and her husband, Harold.

A funeral service will be held Monday, October 8, 2012 at 1 pm at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury with a visitation two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bethesda Endowment Fund, 406 N. Division St., Salisbury, MD 21801 or the Rotary Club of Salisbury Foundation, PO Box 735, Salisbury, MD 21802.
