Princess Anne —Shelia Lynn Ballard., 59 of Princess Anne departed this life Saturday November 24, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, MD. Born March 16, 1953, in Salisbury, MD, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Isaac and Cecile (Handy) Ballard.
Shelia received her education from Somerset County Public School System until she graduated from high school. She also attended college at Wor- Wic Community College and Salisbury University where she received an AA degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling and a BASW degree from the School of Social Work. In addition to her education, Shelia worked for many years with various agencies. Her previous employers include; Salisbury University, Deer's Head Center, Purity Bacon, Somerset County LMB, Go Getters and most recently The University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Somerset county Board of Education. She was also an active member of Mt. Hope A.M.E Zion Church in Princess Anne, MD.
She is survived by two sons, Linwood (Shondelle) Pugh, Jr. of Mardela Springs, and Craig Byrd of Salisbury; eight grandchildren, Keera Pugh of Germantown, Kyra Byrd, of Princess Anne, Craig, Justin and Makala Byrd of Atlanta, GA Chayse Pugh of Mardela Springs, Asia and Marquis Collins of Mardela Springs; four sisters, her twin Sharon Ballard, Louise Jackson, of Princess Anne, Mildred Ballard of Salisbury, and Vanessa Cater of Los Angeles, California; five brothers, Rev. Isaac ( Hazel) , Calvin, and Michael Ballard of Princess Anne, Jesse ( Lula)Ballard of Quantico, and Paul Ballard of Upper Marlboro; one aunt, Mrs. Ardella Ballard of Dublin; she is also survived by several nieces, nephews , great nieces, great nephews, along with a host of family members and special friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Ballard, one sister, Lillian Ballard and one niece Dawn Davis.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012, 11am at Washington High School in Princess Anne, MD. A public viewing will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Princess Anne with a second viewing one hour before Saturday morning services.
