William "Bill" C. Toft, Jr.

Pittsville—William "Bill" C. Toft, Jr., 69, of Pittsville, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at his home in Pittsville.

He was born August 6, 1943 in Baltimore, a son of the late William Cleveland Toft, Sr. and Frances Mallon Toft.

Bill worked many years as a dump truck driver for various companies and was a member of Teamster's Local Union 311 in Baltimore. His true passion was fire service and he was a life member of Riviera Beach VFD Station 13 for over 40 years and past assistant chief of the Green Haven VFD. He was active with the Maryland State Fireman's Association. He enjoyed taking rides to visit other fire departments, watching NASCAR and Baltimore Ravens football. He cherished times spent with family, especially his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Eleanore E. Duncan of Pittsville; a brother, Nelson G. Toft and his wife, Missy of Federalsburg; a sister, Eby Taylor of Federalsburg; Eleanore's family, whom he considered his own, her daughter, Wendy Morris; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Morris; and her great grandchildren, Alexis, Jasmine and Troy; a niece, Sierra; a nephews, Nelson, Jr.; and a close friend, Sandy Wroten.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward "Hubba" Toft.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00. The Reverend J. Harvey Dixon will officiate. Entombment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, 7442 Gumboro Road, Pittsville, MD 21850.
