William Burke Parks Sr.

SALISBURY—William Burke Parks Sr., 74, of Salisbury, and formerly of Bethel Park, Pa., died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at home with family by his side. Born in Guin, Ala., he was the son of the late Johnny D. and Estelle (Moody) Parks.

Bill was a Navy veteran (lieutenant JG) who served on the USS Navasota. A civil engineer, he began his career at Boeing, where he worked on the Saturn V project. He retired as a facilities construction manager for Westinghouse/Bechtel Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin, Pa., after 36 years. At Bettis he worked on the USS Nimitz, the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier.

He was a proud graduate of Columbia Military Academy and Auburn University, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity (War Eagle!). An avid storyteller, Bill enjoyed spending time with his large family, especially his grandchildren, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing tennis and golf, gardening, visiting the beach and picking crabs for hours.

Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cindy, their children, Deanna Huntsman, William Jr., Myra Brooks, Brad, and his beloved grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua, Jasmine, Angel, Adelaide, Emmaline, Corinna, Lomax, and another on the way.

Bill donated his beautiful blue eyes to The Living Legacy Foundation (www.thellf.org).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to The (www.cancer.org) or Coastal Hospice (www.coastalhospice.org).
