Wilma Serman

Crisfield—Wilma Elaine Heavenridge Serman (nee Northrop), 78, formerly of Crisfield, MD and South Lyon, MI passed away after a lengthy illness on November 25, 2012 in Pocomoke City, MD at the Hartley Hall Care Center.

Wilma was well known for her love of home, family, reading and crafts. She was an avid counted cross stitcher and also loved to knit, crochet and sew. She combined her love of hobbies with her generosity to others by making doll clothes for the Salvation Army Christmas Toy drive for over 40 years as well as donating her craft items to support many charity fundraisers. While for most of her life Wilma was a homemaker, during her time in Crisfield, she worked at the J. Millard Tawes Museum assisting visitors and at the Crisfield City Police Department. Wilma was a very active volunteer with the Crisfield American Legion Post 16 Ladies Auxiliary for many years as well as the Salvation Army, J. Milliard Tawes Museum and several other associations. In her later years, Wilma enjoyed going to Crisfield Curves with her friends and was a welcome face there every day. She had many fond memories of the people she worked and interacted with at these organizations over the years.

Wilma was born in Grand Blanc, MI on September 16, 1934 to Marvin and Pearl (nee Grimm) Northrop and graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1952. In 1953 Wilma fell in love and married Albert Lewis Heavenridge in Angola, IN. A few years later they settled in South Lyon, MI where they raised their family and built their business, Al's Drywall, until Albert's untimely passing in 1974. She leaves behind their four children, Joy Louise (Terry) Tschirret of Brighton, MI; Cheryl Ann (Don) Batten of Versailles, OH; Susan Elaine (Ernest) Jones of Silver Springs, FL; and Walter Jay (Tammy) Heavenridge of Crisfield, MD along with 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who will continue to celebrate her life even as they mourn her passing. In 1975 Wilma embraced love again and married Randolph Serman Jr. Relocating from MI to Maryland, they enjoyed almost 10 years together before his sudden passing in 1985. Wilma also leaves behind her sister, Marilyn (George) Lillieberg of Roscommon, MI, step-children Randolph (Debbie) Serman III of MD; Veronica (Jim) Tykoski, James Bryon Serman and Robert Serman all of MI, as well as 18 step grandchildren, 14 step great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband's Albert Lewis Heavenridge and Randolph Serman Jr, stepsons Terry Lee Serman, Edward Charles Serman and Michael Ray Serman, stepdaughter Sharon Leann Serman as well as her beloved dog Checkers.

It was Wilma's wish that her final resting place be next to her first husband Albert L. Heavenridge. To fulfil her wish, funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Bradshaw and Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Steve Willing will officiate. A memorial service and final internment will be held in Washtenong Cemetery in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the spring. You may send your condolences to the family by signing the guest book at www.bradshawandsonsfuneralhome.com.

The family respectfully requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Wilma's memory to the American Legion Post # 16 in Crisfield, MD, the Salvation Army, CurePSP.org or the .

We also wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary nurses, aides, physicians and staff at Hartley Hall Care Center in Pocomoke City, MD for the wonderful care, love and compassion they provided our Mother/Grandmother during her residency there.
