Salisbury—Winifred C. Ross-O'Cummings (Winnie), 87 died Friday, November 23, 2012 at her 618 Cook Drive home in Salisbury.
Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Ebenezer and Eugenia Boatswaine and was reared by her aunt, Tabitha Johnson. Her first husband Kay P. Ross-Little John died in 1951 and her second husband, Grady O'Cummings III died June 1996.
She made her home in NY for the majority of her life, retiring after thirty years from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. She was also formerly employed in the garment district of New York and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Union.
She relocated to Salisbury in 1996. Here she became a member of Unity Christian Fellowship Church. She was a member of the Saturday Book Club which meets monthly at the Wicomico County Free Library.
Her survivors include a devoted son: Phillip Ross and his wife Luz Maria Ross of Salisbury; ten grandchildren: Phyllis, Sean, Nora Lee, Russell, Talisha, Andaiye, Jayson, Paulette, Jennifer, and Caleb; twenty-four great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and other relatives.
A daughter, Katheryn Ross and two grandchildren: Rhonda and Troy preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Weeping Mary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 31537 Shavox Rd, Salisbury where friends may call two hours prior to service. Interment will be in 1618 Green Acres Memorial Park in Salisbury.
Funeral services are entrusted to Jolley Memorial Chapel of Salisbury, MD.
