SALISBURY — Muriel Lewis Vanderpool, 96, of Salisbury died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury. Born in Clayton, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Roswell Eldridge Lewis and Muriel Bickford Lewis.

She was a member of Wicomico Women's Club, Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury and Go-Getters. Muriel had previously worked for the Library of Congress and Social Security Administration in Washington, the IRS in Wichita, Kan., and retired in 1976 as an estimator for Metal Edge Industries in New Jersey. She loved crafts, gardening and volunteering at the Opportunity Shop and playing the piano in the Martha Circle Sunday School class at Asbury.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Vanderpool Gorlich and husband, James, of Laurel and Barbara Vanderpool Steward of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Richard Gorlich and wife, Gerri, and Joanna French and husband, Matthew, all of Greenwood, Del., Shelly Mandel and husband, James, of Marlton, N.J., Donald W. Steward Jr. and wife, Leah, of Mantua, N.J.; 10 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Faith, Erin, Sean, Samantha, Nathan, Zachary, Abigail, Madeline and Sarah; and a sister, Marjorie Bundens and husband, Roy of Lancaster, Penn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Leroy Vanderpool, in 1985; two brothers, Eldridge and Donald Lewis; and a sister, Mildred Frank.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the Welcome O. Brown Cemetery in Barton, Vt.

Memorial contributions can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 1401 Camden Ave., Salisbury, Md. 21801.
