Dorthye "Dot" Walker Bennett
Sharptown-Dorthye "Dot" Walker Bennett, 92, a lifelong resident of Sharptown, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at her home in Sharptown. She was born September 5, 1921 in Sharptown, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Nelson Walker.
Dot, as she was known by all who loved her, was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook. She cherished special times raising her four boys. She loved children and helped raise many of her grandchildren and even some of the children from her neighborhood. She was proud to be a life member and past president of the Sharptown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and spent many hours in the kitchen helping any way she could. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers for the love and care they provided through the years.
She is survived by four sons, Donald Bennett and wife, Cindy of Sharptown, Randall Bennett and wife, Anne of Delmar, Jack Bennett and wife, Cindy of Sharptown and Bruce Bennett and wife, Gail of Laurel; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Riggin Bennett, who passed in 2011; 2 sisters, Isabelle Bramble and Irma Lee Ruark; and a brother, Nelson "Buck" Walker.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sharptown Firemen's Memorial Building in Sharptown, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. The Reverend James Penuel will officiate. Interment will follow at Firemen's Cemetery in Sharptown.
