Sidney Cleafus Sessoms, Sr.

Salisbury-Sidney Cleafus Sessoms, Sr., 85, of here, departed this life on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at his residence. Born in Ahoskie, NC, he was the son of the late Sidney J. Sessoms and Annie Belle Simpson Sessoms.

Mr. Sessoms was a member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Salisbury. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #379 for many years.

He served in the United States Army. Prior to retiring, he worked as Produce Manager at ACME Supermarket for over 20 years.

Fond memories will be cherished by: his wife of 62 years, Margaret W. Sessoms of Salisbury; one son, Sidney C. (Alyia) Sessoms, Jr. of Conford, NC; two daughters, Shirley Winder and Cynthia Creighton, both of Salisbury; one brother, Ray Sessoms of Portsmouth, VA; three sisters, Annie (Harold) Bashay and Peggy Ann (Albert) Bell, both of Portsmouth, and Ida Watts of Radcliff, KY; one other brother-in-law, Steven Johnson of Salisbury; two other daughters-in-law, Clara "Betty" Bateman of Salisbury and Mae Von Bateman of Delmar; 21 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Leo "Kookie" Bateman and Albert L. Bateman, Sr., one brother, Gary Sessoms, and one sister, Mazer Bradley.

Mr. Sessoms will lie in repose on Monday from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday from 12 to 1 PM at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, 521 Mack Avenue, Salisbury. The funeral service will begin at 1 PM. Rev. Dr. M. Luther Hill will be the Officiating Pastor and Rev. Sidney C. Sessoms, Jr. will be the Eulogist. Interment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens, 27260 Ocean Gateway, Hebron.
