Galestown-Rosemary Chumley Smith, 82, died peacefully early Monday morning, March 3, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
Rosemary was born January 20, 1932 in Gilliam, LA to Delbert William and Susan Mae Chumley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren P. Smith, and granddaughter Shannon L. Betts.
Rosemary shared many interests with her husband "WP", one of which made her known for the red corner store "Rosemary's Market" in Eldorado, MD. Rosemary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved animals of all kinds and gardening.
She is survived by two sisters, Bette Southerland of Shreveport, LA, Joan Robinson of Oil City, LA, one brother Delbert Chumley, Jr. and wife, Shelia of Shreveport, LA, two daughters, Jennifer Layfield of Delmar, MD, Simmie Betts and husband, William (Billy) of Salisbury, MD; two sons, Warren Smith, Jr. and wife, Susan of Simpsonville, SC, Dee Smith and wife, Deanna of Galestown, MD; grandchildren, Christy Kennedy and husband Burt of Delran , NJ, William (Bill) Betts Jr. of Delmar, MD, Mandy Harpool and husband Mike of Delmar, MD, Warren Smith III of Greenville, SC, Bree Stade of Salisbury, MD, Brittany Smith of Galestown, MD, Michael Smith of Greenville, SC, and Kelsey Smith of Galestown, MD, Ethan Smith of Galestown, MD; 18 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and Maggie, Charlie, and Tom.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Costal Hospice at the Lake for their special care and comfort.
Family and friends may call Friday, March 7, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, and also Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00, followed by funeral services which begin at 11:00. Interment will be held in Galestown Cemetery.
