Betty Cruise Perdue

Cary, NC-Betty Cruise Perdue, 84, of Cary, NC, formerly of Salisbury, passed away at Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh NC, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Born on October 20, 1929 near Birmingham, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late William David Cruise and Annie Mae Holsenback Cruise. Also preceding her in death was her loving husband, Uley Franklin (Frank) Perdue; her beloved stepmother, Vera Cruise; step brother, Joe Oakman; brother, William D. Cruise Jr. and sister, Helen Dunnaway.

For 21 years, during Frank's active US Naval career, she lived in many different locations including Norfolk and Arlington, VA; Brunswick, GA; Pensacola, FL; and Monterey, San Leandro and San Diego, CA. Upon retirement from the Navy, Frank and Betty lived in Salisbury MD from 1965 until 2009. In Salisbury she was a staunch supporter of Frank's real estate endeavors. Being the heart of the family, she was a great source of encouragement and support for everyone. She was a loving mother and homemaker, valuing her family and home above all else. She was an excellent cook especially her crab cakes, soft shell crab and crab imperial! For recreation she enjoyed bridge, boating and golf. She had memberships in the Elks, Nassawango and Nutters Golf Courses. In 2009, after Frank's death, Betty moved to Cary NC to be near her daughter. In Cary, she was a resident of Woodland Terrace Senior Community. She made many new friends there and was very active in the community. She will be greatly missed.

Betty leaves behind two very sad daughters, Linda J. Perdue of San Diego, Ca, and Nancy P. Merrick and her husband, Alex of Cary NC; granddaughters, Abigail Merrick of Brooklyn, NY and Stacy Merrick of Coral Gables, FL; nephews, Phillip Perdue and Chris Perdue, and a niece, Carol Perdue Evans and their families; and special friends, Patti and Richard Cooley.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 2 pm at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, a visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Saturday April 26, 2014 at 2pm at Woodland Terrace Senior Community in Cary NC. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Betty's memory to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh NC 27607-6372.
