Oliver Sam Whaley

Princess Anne-Sam Whaley, 63, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Wilmington VA hospital. Sam was the son of Greensbury and Vesta Whaley and was born Feb. 26, 1951, in Salisbury. Even though Sam lived in Alaska for approximately two years working on the Alaskan Pipeline, most of his life was spent as a new construction building contractor, working with his father in the Salisbury area. Sam enjoyed shooting pool, hunting for elk while on vacation in Colorado and going to the turkey shoots at the American Legion (Hebron) and the VFW (Delmar). Sam was a life member of the VFW, the NRA and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Sam is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tonette; a daughter, Michelle Jones (Mike); a son, Jacob Whaley; and a stepdaughter, Nicole Carmean. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Morgan, Vanessa, Macie and Scott; his father, Greensbury Whaley; sister, Sue Whaley (Tom); brother, Roland Whaley (Raye); a special nephew, Tommy Phippin; Mother-in-law Sarah "Pie" Morgan; brother-in-law, Calvin Landon (Donna); Charlie Adams; and numerous other relatives and friends. His mother, Vesta Whaley, and his brother, Mike, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 26, at the Delmar VFW at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Sam to the .
