Delmar-Michael David Lewes of Delmar, MD, passed from earth to Heaven on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Born June 23, 1925, in London, England, he was the son of the late David and Winifred Lewes.
His education began in England and was completed in Guyana, South America, where he worked with his father in gold mining before moving to Trinidad, working in oil, to save for college. He graduated with honors in mining engineering from McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 1951.
He was a mining engineer and corporate executive with U.S. Gypsum Co. for 34 years, living in Jamaica, Belgium, Canada and the U.S. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2000, and was widely known for his patriotism, strong Christian faith and generous love for his family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Beulah Mulcahy Lewes and by his sister, Rita Franklin, Montreal, Canada.
He is survived by and dearly missed by his wife of 10 years, Constance "Connie" Spencer Lewes; his sister, Diana Deputy, Waynesboro, VA; three children: Christine Moore, Southwest Harbor, ME, Catherine Wallis, Maidenhead, UK and David Lewes, Williamsburg, VA; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren: two step-children, Stephen Hackett and Emily Stone, Rhodesdale, MD; and 5 step-grandchildren.
A service of thanksgiving and celebration of his life will be held at Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene, 27765 Nanticoke Rd., Salisbury, MD 21801, on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 11:00 am, where friends may call from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Rev. Ronald G. Parker and Rev. William C. Spencer, Jr. of Smithfield, NC will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene.
