Laurel-Helma F. Wood, 69, of Laurel passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Nurnberg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Sebastian Ernst and Babette Menath Ernst.
Helma was a retired nurse working for many years at Deer's Head Hospital in Salisbury, and also for the Delmar Nursing Home. She and her late husband, Richard, owned and operated "Woods" restaurant in Laurel. She was a member of the Laurel Wesleyan Church. Helma loved to garden, read, plant beautiful flowers and sew. Her most important treasure in life was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Helma was the glue that kept all the family connected.
Helma is survived by her daughters, Beate Tyndall and her husband, Todd, of Laurel, Angela Hastings and her husband, Bob, of Seaford, and Nicole Marine and her husband, Brian, of Laurel; her sister, Josefine Low and her husband, Manfred, of Germany; her grandchildren, Jennifer Tripp, Kelly Armiger, Bobby Hastings, Kirsten Marine, Brett Marine, Ashton Hastings, Kayla Marine, Josefine Tyndall, and Aubree Tyndall; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and her special friend, Al Izzarone, also survive her.
In addition to her parents, Helma was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Wood, and her son, Robert Armiger.
A funeral service will be held at the Laurel Wesleyan Church, 30186 Seaford Road, Laurel, at noon Wednesday, May 14. A viewing will be held at the church from 11 a.m.-noon). Interment will be private.
