Salisbury-Jean Hitch Vachon, 85, of Salisbury, and formerly of Green Acres, Fla., died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was a resident for a short while at Deer's Head Hospital.
Born in Philadelphia on Oct. 31, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Michael Martin and Caroline Caruso Martin.
While living in Salisbury she was employed at the Old Montgomery Ward store as a PBX operator and later went to work for Cavanaugh Ford as a receptionist. When she moved to Florida she was employed with the Palm Beach County School System as a purchasing agent.
She is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Maryanne and Tom Lundgren of Holiday, Fla., Nancy M. and Richard Richards of Tyaskin, Marie F. and Bert Lekites of Delmar and Cindy A. and Daniel Casagrande of Parsonsburg; seven grandchildren, Chad Lauridsen, Jenni and Brian Lekites, Blair Catlin-Brown, Christine Pagno, Michelle Fretz and Joseph "Boz" Jacono; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anne Kane of New Port Richie, Fla.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Preston W. Hitch of Salisbury and Larry Vachon of Florida, plus a longtime companion, Syl Barron.
The family would like to extend a warm "Thank You" to the staff of Deer's Head Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
