Laurel-Edward H. Melvin, age 80, of Laurel, Delaware passed away at his home on June 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Edward was born in Milford, Delaware a son of the late J. Lynn Melvin and Ruth Melvin.
Mr. Melvin retired from the DuPont Company in Seaford after 40 years of service as a machine operator/electrician. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel. Edward was a NASCAR fan routing for his favorite driver Kyle Busch. He traveled the east coast, going to many races. He was also a Baltimore Raven Fan and followed the University of Delaware Football Team. He enjoyed his yard work and could be found sitting on his porch enjoying his day. Edward was also a longtime member of the Odd Fellows Charity Lodge in Laurel.
Mr. Melvin is survived by his wife of 54 years Barbara Phillips Melvin of Laurel. His son, Richard Melvin and wife Myrna of Laurel and a daughter Moggie O'Neal and husband Joseph of Laurel. His brothers, Fred Melvin and Donald Melvin both of Laurel. Grandchildren, Maggie Lynn O'Neal, Megan Benner, Richard Melvin, Jr. and Kara Melvin. Great Grandchildren, Christian Price and Colton O'Neal. Several niece's and nephews also survive him, along with many extended family members.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home Laurel, Delaware on Friday June 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
