Yvonne Jemart Sinclair Statum

Salisbury-Yvonne Jemart Sinclair Statum, 74, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014. Born June 23, 1939, she was the oldest child of Anna Oneida Wright Sinclair and Archie Lacy Sinclair, Sr.

Yvonne graduated from Preston High School in 1957. On November 28, 1957, she married E. Franklin Statum. They lived in Federalsburg for many years. Yvonne loved children, especially her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed her time spent as a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher.

Yvonne started attending Salisbury State College in her mid-thirties, graduating in 1975. She turned her love of children into a 21-year teaching career in the Caroline County public school system. Yvonne earned her Masters degree on May 21, 1983, in the same ceremony during which her daughter received her Bachelor's degree.

Yvonne loved to travel. She visited England, Scotland, Canada, the Bahamas and many states, including Alaska. She was an avid stamp collector and member of the Eastern Shore Stamp Club.

Yvonne was active in church all of her life, starting at Harmony Methodist Church, then at Christ United Methodist Church and Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg. She loved singing in the choir. Yvonne joined Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene after moving to Salisbury.

Yvonne is survived by one daughter, Lauren Martz, and her husband, David; grandchildren Dean Martz and Anna Marie Martz, all of Salisbury. She is also survived by sisters, Alice (Lonny) Harden and Neva (Wilburt) Thomas; brother, Louis (Bonnie) Sinclair and sister-in-law Della Sinclair. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, E. Franklin Statum, her parents, and brothers Archie L. Sinclair, Jr., Leslie Sinclair and Dennis Sinclair.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the youth group of Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11 am at Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at 3 pm on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Unity Washington Cemetery outside of Hurlock.
