Laurel-Joan Louise O'Neal Hipps, age 70, of Laurel, DE passed away on June 17, 2014 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.

Joan was born in Laurel, DE a daughter of the late David and Mamie O'Neal.

Joan retired as a waitress from restaurants all over Delmarva. She attended Laurel Baptist Church and Central Worship Center. She was the family Matriarch, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and many others whom called her mom especially her extended family. She always had time to support her family at ball games and field trips. She enjoyed sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Orioles and NASCAR. She could be found playing Bingo with her friends, Fourth of July Parades or traveling. A fantastic cook, comfort food was her specialty were she always had an open door for friends of her children and many others.

Mrs. Hipps greatest priority was her family. She is survived by her husband John Hipps and his family. Her sons, Donald Brooks Nichols (Lynette) of Jenkins, Minn., Vincent R. Worster (Debbie) of Houston, DE., Ronald L. Worster of Felton and Doug N. Worster (Tracy) of Laurel. Her daughters, Debra Cahall of Delmar and Donna Rae O'Neal of Laurel. A special friend, B. McGinnis. Grandchildren, Joseph A. Cahall, Michelle Cahall (Derek Himmler), Christopher VanZanat (Summer), Nikki VanZant, Katelyn Cottet, Jenna Cottet, Chelsa Nichols, V.J. Worster, Brianna Worster, Amber Rogers, John Ray (Lauren), Johanna Ray, Ryan O'Neal, and Georgia O'Neal. Great Grandchildren, Mason Himmler, Makenna Himmler, Hannah VanZant, Wyatt Taylor, Shelby Ray and Brayden Moore. Her step children, Cathy Hipps Ellis, Michael Hipps, John Hipps, Treena Hipps, Greg Hipps, and Timmy Hipps. Her first husband George Wilbur Nichols of Seaford. A son in law Jay Cottet of Seaford. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her siblings, Donald, Rubin and Jerry O'Neal, Barbara Ann O'Neal and Pasty O'Neal Stevens. Her second husband Vaungh Worster (1972), a daughter Brenda Cottet (2009) and a son in law Joe Cahall (2012).

A Funeral Service will be held at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home Laurel, DE on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. A Viewing will also be held at the Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-8:00 pm. The Rev. Tim Dukes and Rev. Ron Jester will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
