Curtis B. Pusey

Princess Anne-Curtis B. Pusey died Friday, June 27, 2014 at Aurora Senior Living of Manokin in Princess Anne at the age of 98. Born in Somerset County near Princess Anne on November 15, 1915, he was a son of the late Curtis C. and Vera Mae Baker Pusey.

Mr. Pusey was a World War II veteran. He was inducted into the United States Army in January of 1943 and served in Europe from 1944 through early 1946. He was honorably discharged in March of 1946 at the rank of staff sergeant. His military awards included the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon.

Upon his return home from the military, he began his career with the State of Maryland Department of Employment, Eastern Shore Division in Salisbury. Beginning at an entry level, he progressed through the ranks and eventually became the manager of the Salisbury office. He retired from this position in 1977 after more than thirty years of service.

Throughout his life, Mr. Pusey operated a furniture repair and custom cabinet shop at his home. Following retirement, he was able to pursue his craft fulltime and was known for his meticulous attention to detail. In August of 2002 at the age of eighty-six, he closed his shop and liquidated his many years of accumulated machinery, equipment, tools, and inventory.

Mr. Pusey is survived by his daughter, Constance Pusey of Salisbury, his son, Richard A. Pusey and wife Joan of Salisbury; two granddaughters, Jennifer Jones Phillips and husband, Dan, of Salisbury and Suzanne DiRocco and husband, Jim, of Hutto, Texas, three great granddaughters, Ashley Jones, Katherine Phillips, and Lauren Phillips of Salisbury. Also surviving are a brother, Frank Pusey and his wife Joyce, of Kernersville, NC., two sisters, June Gourley of Mt. Vernon and Margaret Curran of Elkton, several nieces and nephews and two special friends Drexel Powell and Orville Outten.

He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Elsie Revelle, and brothers Thompson Pusey, Elwood Pusey, and Joseph Pusey.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 11:00 AM in the Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment with Military Honors will follow the service in the Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne.
