Jay Joseph Hearn

Laurel-Jay Joseph Hearn, 56, of Laurel, died Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

He was born July 11, 1958 in Salisbury, a son of the late Joshua B. Hearn, who passed in 1995 and Charlene Ann Hearn, who passed in 2013.

Jay was raised in Delmar and always proud to be a part of the Delmar community. Jay enjoyed his job of 28 years as a territory manager for RBI Corporation of Richmond, Virginia. His love of Baltimore sports began many years ago as a fan of the Baltimore Colts and the Orioles. When the Ravens came to town he quickly began to love them as well. Through the years he has accumulated quite a collection of memorabilia from his favorite Baltimore teams. In addition to sports, he recently told his family the things that hold the most importance to him was his family, his truck, his tractor and his dogs. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joanne M. Hearn; 2 sons, Scott Michael Hearn of Dayton, Virginia and Jason Thomas Hearn of Baltimore; his mother-in-law, Jean G. Pope; a brother-in-law, Tom Pope; and a sister-in-law, Linda Pope, all of Salisbury. He is also survived by his faithful companions, 2 dogs, "Two-Boo" and "Bandit Marie;" and his grand-pup, "May."

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Immediately following the visitation the family welcomes everyone to their home for a gathering of food and fellowship. Services will be private at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
