Margaret Kolb Staples

Salisbury-Margaret "Peggy" Staples, 87, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Denmead and Margaret Kolb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Staples; her son, Stephen Denmead Strott; and brother, Stanley Denmead Kolb.

She is survived by her son, George G. Strott Jr., and wife, Connie, of Salisbury; one daughter, Andrea Ward, and husband, Jack, of Salisbury; brother, Charles Edward Mealy Kolb; grandchildren, Meredith (Strott) Lewis and husband, Jason, Lindsay Travis of Tampa, Fla., Elliott Guild Strott and wife, Betsy, of Charlestown, S.C., Jake Travis of Salisbury, Christopher Strott of Salisbury, Billie McFarlene of Salisbury and Mac McFarlene of Salisbury, Quinn Gavin and Patrick Gavin; stepchildren, Elizabeth McFarlene of Salisbury and husband, Ken; John Gavin and wife, Tia, Tori Shequine and husband, Tom Hormuth, Donald Sullivan Jr. and Kevin Sullivan Jr. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews in the United States and abroad.

She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury for many years. She was a writer and journalist and member of several writers' guilds here on the Eastern Shore as well as in Virginia and Georgia. She was a member of Samuel Chase Chapter Daughters of American Revolution. She loved to play bridge and was a member of many bridge clubs. She was an avid gardener and was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club. She traveled extensively and her first child, George Strott Jr., was born in Tsingtao, China.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 20, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury. The family will receive visitors at 12:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall with a memorial service to follow at the church at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to Life Crisis, PO Box 387, Salisbury, MD 21803.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bounds Funeral Home.
