Salisbury-Gwen Matlack Fields, 73, of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Born in Sheffield, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Harold Ellis Matlack and Roberta Jane Coleman Matlack, who relocated to Salisbury in 1954.
Gwen had been a member of the Maryland Dental Hygienist Association since 1966. She worked as dental hygienist for multiple dentists in the Salisbury area. In addition, she worked at other part-time positions, including Realtor and Maryland Dept. of Social Services.
She enjoyed her hobbies of bird watching, gardening, animal rescue and rehabilitation including birds, squirrels, ducks, cats and dogs.
She is survived by her fiancé, Clyde Adkins of Salisbury; her brother, James Matlack and wife, Eileen, of Sharptown; her sister, Martha Hall, and husband, Frank, of Salisbury; her daughter, Renee Speer, and husband, Dave, of Crofton; her son, Jon T. DeCroes of Fruitland; two stepsons, Jerry Fields and wife, Brenda, of Columbia and Brent Fields and wife, Kathleen, of Savannah, Ga.; her stepdaughter, Lorraine McCool and husband, Robert, of Kokomo, Ind.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Howard Travers will officiate.
