Hebron-Joan Florelene (Freeny) Pitts, 64, of Hebron died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born Nov. 11, 1949, in Quantico, she was the daughter of the late Flora Lena Phillips and William Howard Freeny. She was married in 1981 to the late Jonah Joseph Pitts.
She graduated from Mardela High School in 1967 and attended St. Mary's College from 1967-1971, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in art. She retired from the Wicomico County Board of Education in August 2014.
Her fondest memories were the children and staff at Chipman Elementary School and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Salisbury.
She lived most of her life on her family farm in Hebron historically known as "Bower Hill Farm."
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband. She leaves behind a friend of many years, Jaqueline Howard. She also leaves behind cousins, Shirley Insley, Eleanor Dickerson, Delores Outten Jones, and a very special cousin, Ralph R. Harcum III of Hebron.
Services will be private.
