Pocomoke-Elizabeth D. Sessoms Knight, 98 of Pocomoke City, Maryland, died on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at her daughter's home in Pocomoke City, Maryland.
Born September 15, 1915 in Powellsville, North Carolina, she was the oldest of eight children of the late Raleigh and Joyce Luden Sessoms. She was the wife of the late James Knight. Mrs. Knight was a resident of Philadelphia for more than fifty years prior to moving to Pocomoke City, Maryland.
As a young girl she was a member of the Pineywood Chapel in Powellsville, North Carolina. In Philadelphia she was an active member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church serving in the Missionary Club. After moving to Pocomoke City, she became an active member the New Macedonia Baptist Church also serving in the Missionary Club. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing pinochle and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Kane Boettger of Pocomoke City, MD, who lovingly cared for her in her final years; two granddaughters, Jacqueline Kane Parham and her daughter Alynn Parham of Greenbackville, VA and Tracy Kane Lofty and her husband Jerome and their son Jon Lofty of Washington, D.C; two sisters, Rohdine Bazemore of Philadelphia, PA and Margaret Perry and her husband Samuel of Charlotte, NC.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers - Raleigh "R.J." Sessoms, MacDonald Sessoms, and Winston Sessoms and two sisters - Goldie Cherry and Florida Coverdale.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday at the New Macedonia Baptist Church, Sixth and Young Streets in Pocomoke City, MD, where family and friends will gather starting at 1:15PM for a visitation. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Pocomoke City, MD.
