Joyce Simpler Lyons

Delmar-Joyce Simpler Lyons, 67, of Delmar, died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 25, 1947 in Wilmington, Delaware, a daughter of the late Doris Waller Walls.

Joyce worked as a dental assistant at ECI for many years, a job she truly loved. Her family was her priority and she worked hard to make sure they always had what they needed. She enjoyed cooking with her family and sitting and reading with or helping with homework or simply listening to her grandchildren tell her stories of their day. She was a basketball fan and never missed the Globetrotters when they came to town. She also loved musicals and Lord of the Dance was a favorite of hers. She got pleasure out of the simplest things in nature and had a fondness for canaries and tiger lilies.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorie Simpler and Sonya Simpler, both of Delmar; a son, Tony Webster, and his wife Brandi, of Fayetteville, NC; 5 grandchildren, Dylan Shorter, Ashton Messick, Dakota Messick, Trinity Brown and Uriyah Brown; brothers and sisters, who loved her dearly, Wayne Tull of Fruitland, Brenda Frye of Salisbury and Judy Outten, and her husband, Winston, of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her former husband, and father of her children, Don Simpler.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sue Tull and a brother-in-law, Charles Frye.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Interment will follow at Beechwood Cemetery in Princess Anne.
