Eugene Jones Obituary

Published by The Daily Times on Sep. 24, 2016.
Eugene Theodore Jones

Hebron-Eugene "Gene" Theodore Jones, 91, of Hebron, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his home. Born August 10, 1925 in Double Mills, he was the son of the late Theodore and Luna Wright Jones.

Gene graduated from Hebron High School. He served in the U.S. Army and later worked as a carpenter for many years; first with his father and brothers (Bill & Bob) and later with Robert Taylor

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Music was always important to the family and he played guitar with friends and was also in a band called "Little by Little".

Married to his best friend, Nora Lee, they enjoyed activities with the Hebron Lions Club and Tall Cedars. He was also a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Hebron, Temple Lodge #170 AF & AM, Mardela Springs and a charter member of American Legion Spring Hill Post 237 (being the oldest member). He was very proud to have served in the U.S. Army. He spent winters in Florida, but he was always "a Hebron boy".

Gene is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Eugenia & Milton "Mick" Elliott; of Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren, Heather and Christian and his wife Jennifer; great-grandsons, Cooper and Elijah Elliott. His extended family includes: sister, Kathryn English; sister-in-law, Elsie Jones; brother & sister-in-law, Robert (Bob) & Vera Jones and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Lee and his brother, William (Bill) Jones.

A visitation will be held on Monday September 26th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm followed by memorial services by the Hebron Lions Club and Temple Masonic Lodge #170. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron.

We have such wonderful memories of your parents visiting Plano during Christmas holidays. Your father doing his crossword puzzles and talking about things he'd read in the paper are some of the things that I'll always remember about him. In fact, the last time we saw him, he was working a puzzle, but he "didn't need" any help he told us. I know that he and Joker had many good times together there in Florida. I'm glad they have had those memories.

Genia, Mick and Family:
So sorry for the loss of your dad. He helped build a handicap ramp for my dad in Quantico, which was donated by the Lions Club. I know you are going to miss him. My prayers are with you at this very sad time. May God Bless.

I will forever cherish the time I spent with Gene. He was a kind and gentle man and so appreciative of anything anyone did for him. He loved his family and loved when people would stop in to visit when he was home for the summers. God certainly blessed me when he brought Gene into my life. Thanks for the memories Gene. i love you.
