Clinton Oliver Camper

QUANTICO — Clinton Oliver Camper of Quantico died Thursday, May 19, 2011, as the result of an automobile accident. Clinton was born July 12, 1934, to the late William David Camper, Sr. and Naomi Wright Camper.

Clinton received his education in the former Salisbury (Colored) High School, graduating in the Class of 1952. He attended Maryland State College, now the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. He was a U.S. Army veteran, 1955-57. Clinton was united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Smith Camper in Clinton, S.C., on Dec. 27, 1967. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage.

Clinton pursued many employment opportunities and held memberships in several organizations including Wicomico County School Bus Contractors Association, Campbell Soup Co., owner and operator of Camper's Trucking Co. and Lake Street 66 Service Station in Salisbury. He was affiliated with Westside Activity Club, United States Bowling Conference, VFW 10159. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Wetipquin, Md., where he served as a trustee.

Beautiful memories of his life will be cherished by his devoted wife, Dorothy Smith Camper of Quantico; one son, Clinton Rusteen (Felicia) Camper of Ashburn, Va.; five daughters, Amelia Handy of Hebron, Linette Camper Henri of Salisbury, Annette (Charles) Maddox of Princess Anne, Naomi Fontaine of Savannah, Ga., and Yolanda Camper of Jonesboro, Ga.; one sister, Cynthia Fauntleroy, Greenbelt, Md.; mother-in-law, Myrtle Smith of Clinton, S.C.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, M. Alma Perry, and two brothers, Carroll Camper and William D. Camper II.

A service of remembrance will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Wetipquin, where friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church. Friends may also call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury. The Rev. Lawrence Purnell is the officiating minister. Interment will follow in Friendship Church Cemetery.
