SNOW HILL — Dorothy J. "Dot" Nelson, 90, died Sunday, March 11, 2012. Born in Taylorville near Berlin, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Wooten Johnson. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard C. Nelson, in 1959. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Benjamin W Nelson Sr., and two sons, Roger Kenneth Nelson and his wife, Suzanne, of Pocomoke City and Benjamin W. Nelson Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Snow Hill. She was the adored grandmother of five grandchildren, Alison Owens, Michael Nelson, Seth Nelson, Joe Donoway and Justin Barnes; eight great-grandchildren, Adam and Annabel Owens, Tristan, Brendan, Noelle, Ava, Alex and Riley Nelson; and a special cousin, Helen Raber. She leaves a brother-in-law, Alonzo Nelson and his wife, Ethelyn; and a sister-in-law, Florence Horsey. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford "Tip" Johnson and Charles Johnson.
Mrs. Nelson was a graduate of Buckingham High School in Berlin. She had worked in a hosiery mill, at the Treasure Chest in Berlin and as a teacher's assistant at Snow Hill High School. She had been a member and Chaplain of the Worcester County Chapter 102 Order of Eastern Star and was a member of Spence Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Spence Baptist Church near Snow Hill. The Rev. Kenneth Elligson will officiate. An Eastern Star service will also be held. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Burbage Funeral Home in Snow Hill. Interment will be private for the family in Evergreen Cemetery in Berlin.
