SALISBURY — Mr. Michael Randolph "Mike" Sterling, 59, husband of the late Rita Jo Sterling and a resident of Salisbury, formerly of Parksley, passed away at Salisbury Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Salisbury on Thursday, May 3, 2012.
Born on Feb. 11, 1953, in Nassawadox, Va., he was the only child of Carl Randolph Sterling and Betsy Ross Baker Sterling. Mike served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1971-75; was a career law enforcement officer, having worked with Accomack County, Eastern Correctional Institute and Wicomico County Courts; and was a former longtime member of Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed golfing, was a music lover and a former member of the NRA.
Survivors include two children, Betsy Ann Boyer (and husband Wes) of Myerstown, Pa., and Paul Baker Sterling (and Lauryn Seeds) of Salisbury; a stepson, the Rev. Joe McKnight and wife, Kelly, of Harborton, Va.; two grandchildren, Kinsey Quinn Boyer and Hadley Scarlett Boyer; and his parents-in-law, Joseph T. Smith Jr. of North Carolina and Ann Warren Smith of Nassawadox.
Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Parksley Cemetery on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Brian Kramer officiating.
