COLUMBIA, Md. — Roxie Lilliebelle Cottman, 89, was welcomed in God's rest on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia.
Born and raised in Salisbury, Roxie graduated from Salisbury Colored High School in 1940. She was the eldest of seven born to Margaret Janey (Nairne) Trader and Edgar Allen Trader Sr.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Ulysses Cottman.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Ulysses E. Cottman Jr. of Smithfield, N.C.; Eugene E. Cottman Sr. of Delmar, Phyllis G. Bratten, Ronald J. Cottman, Donald R. Cottman, all of Salisbury, Maxwell P. Cottman (deceased) of Sacramento and Brenda J. Cottman of Columbia; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and her loving sisters, Edith L. Wallop and Beulah Hutt.
Preceding her in death were siblings, Edgar A. Trader Jr., Georgia A. Hutt, Dorothy E. Palmer and Vaughn W. Trader Sr.
Roxie was a faithful and dedicated member of Mount Enoch Holy Church for more than 50 years. In 1998, she was commissioned as a deaconess and for many years, was a Communion steward and a beloved Sunday school teacher. She was gentle in spirit yet a very strong woman. We will forever miss her in this life.
A visitation is this evening from 6-8 and Friday from 9-11 a.m., followed by the funeral Friday at 11 a.m. at Mount Enoch Holy Church at 28055 Rockawalkin Ridge Road in Salisbury. Elder Dr. Glen T. Robinson will officiate.
