Rebecca Elliott Gordon

Sharptown—Rebecca Elliott Gordon, born June 24, 1950 in Bell, West Virginia, passed peacefully to her Heavenly Father on Monday, December 3, 2012.

Left to cherish her memories, grace and courage are her loving husband of 38 years, Danny Gordon; Son Wesley Gordon (Beth) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Son Daniel Gordon of Raleigh, North Carolina; and daughter, Rachel Gordon, of Charleston, South Carolina. Also left to remember her love and kindness are her grandchildren, Serafim Elliott Gordon, son of Daniel, and Jackson David Gordon, son of Wesley and Beth; Sister-in-laws, Marti M. Elliott and Vicky Gordon Martin , P.H.D.; Brother-in-law Don Martin, P.H.D; nephews Van Gordon Martin and Gray Elliott and niece, Ashley Martin Elliott. Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Elliott, her mother Frieda Lee Elliott of Bell, W. Va., and her brother, John Wesley Elliott, Jr.

Becky meant the world to the children and the parents whose lives she touched. She provided that special type of encouragement that each student feels is tailored to him/her alone. Each child felt a special bond because Becky reached out to them as individuals. She also mentored teachers for over twenty years. She served on the board of the Eastern Shore Institute to the Advancement of Thinking and wrote numerous articles for their periodicals. The impetuous was always on "learning by doing". For AIMS Becky served as a Ford Fellow and lent her philosophy of learning to teachers in independent schools throughout Maryland. She was a long time member of the Eastern Shore Reading Council and served as an example for all teachers with her calm and professional demeanor.

Rebecca leaves a legacy of love of family, grace, courage, loyalty, friendship and kindness. She was courageous throughout her life and sought ways to face challenges realistically, strengthen relationships and smooth the road for those she loved. A lifelong learner and teacher Becky will continue to teach us. As a wife, mother, grandmother and friend Becky will forever be cherished as our Guiding Light.

A celebration of Rebecca's life will be held on the banks of the Nanticoke River, Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 1pm at the home of dear friends Jerry and Joan Matyiko, 508 Water St., Sharptown, Md. In lieu of flowers Becky requested memorials be sent to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802 or Johns Hopkins Institute, P.O. Box 17073, Baltimore, Md. 21297.
