Frederick—Betty Ann Blake, 67, of here and formerly of Snow Hill, departed this life on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at her residence. Born in Snow Hill, she was the eldest of six children born to the late Violet Blake Showell.
She obtained her early Christian training in her family church, Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. She later committed her life to Christ at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Snow Hill and continued her walk of faith at New Dimension Worship Center in Frederick.
Betty served her country as a member of the Armed Forces in the United States Army Reserves. As a member of the United States Army Reserves, she worked at the Snow Hill Nursing Home and Snow Hill McDonald's.
She leaves to cherish fond memories with: one daughter, Jasmine Michelle Blake of Snow Hill; four brothers, George "Bobby" (Linda) Blake of Havre de Grace, James Showell, Jr. of Snow Hill, Jerry (Henrietta) Showell of Snow Hill, and Melvin (Ingrid) Showell of Belcamp; one sister, Barbara (Alexander) Hardy of Frederick; one god brother, Billy (Lumarzell) Blake of Fort Washington; four goddaughters, Anita (Hoyt) Glover of Frederick, Amber Blake of Joppatowne, Jakki (Deone) Carter of Columbia, and Lynn Tindle of Snow Hill; a very special cousin, Elsie Showell of Snow Hill; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by: one daughter, Renee Michelle Blake; and two god sisters, Margaret "Ann" Showell and Dorothy "Dot" Hudson.
Ms. Blake will lie in repose on Friday from 6 to 8 PM and Saturday from 1 to 2 PM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church located on 410 Dighton Avenue in Snow Hill. The funeral service will begin at 2 PM. Rev. Joe L. Poe will officiate. Interment will be in the new section of Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church Cemetery on Scotland Road in Snow Hill.
