Dennis George Carey

Selbyville—Dennis George Carey, 68, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Born on June 24, 1944, in Boston, he was the son of the late George and Virginia (Castoroni) Carey.

At the age of 18, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served during the Vietnam War.

As a steam generator operator, Dennis was instrumental in the building of the second span of the William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge (Chesapeake Bay Bridge). For several years he worked in the Middle East operating generators for various construction companies.

Dennis had a passion for sailing and was a former member of the Ocean Pines Sailboat Club. He had an unconditional love for animals and enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren, especially at the beach.

Dennis was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Berlin and Fenwick Island Baptist Church in Fenwick.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Naomi (Piper) Carey; daughter, Margaret Caldwell and her husband, Paul IV of Townsend; a brother, George Carey; two special grandchildren, Maddison and Zachary; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends may visit with Dennis' family from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment with full military honors will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
