D. Scott Bailey

Mardela Springs—D. Scott Bailey, 67, of Mardela Springs, died on Monday, February 4, 2013 at his residence. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Claude Wilson Bailey and Edna Gwendolyn Bennett Bailey.

He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs and the Dor-Wic American Legion Post 218 in Sharptown. He worked for 38 years at E. I. Dupont Nylon Co., retiring in 2001. In earlier years, he played softball in the Wicomico County Modified Softball League.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Debra Fritz Bailey; a son, Craig Alan Bailey and his wife, Mary of Salisbury; a daughter, Kara Bailey Rhode of Salisbury; 5 grandchildren, Zackery W. Bailey, Brittany N. Bailey, Jacob S. Bailey, Nathan T. Bailey and Ethan C. Rhode; a sister, Shirley A. Flaig of Delmar, DE; 3 brothers, James D. Bailey and his wife, JoAnn of Charles Town, WV, Ray G. Bailey and his wife, Shirley and Steven M. Bailey and his wife, Judy, all of Mardela Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert B. Bailey and Jack W. Bailey; and 2 sisters, Margaret M. Tavel and Clara B. Whitelock Willin.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with Rev. Donna Hinkle officiating. There will be a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and also on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be held at the Mardela Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in his memory be made to Coastal Hospice, P. O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 and or Mardela Springs Fire Department, P.O. Box 299 Mardela Springs, MD 21837 and or Heroes Haven, Inc., in care of Dor-Wic Post 218, P.O. Box 168, Sharptown, MD. 21861.
